It’s the month of love, caring and giving.
How does this loving family spend their time in this beloved month?

My mother Sarah bustles around in the kitchen in search of something she loves. She stirs the pot and says, “I love cooking yummy and healthy dishes during Ramadan. And I love making bassboosa, for it’s my husband’s favorite dessert. But most of all, I love giving out food to friends and neighbours.”

Reflections from the life of Usamah ibn Zaid radiAllahu anhum

Reflections from the life of Usamah ibn Zaid radiAllahu anhum

Usamah ibn Zaid radiAllahu anhum was the son of the Prophet salAllahu alayhi wa sallam‘s adopted son, Zaid ibn Harith radiAllahu anhu who had the blessed opportunity to have his name mentioned by Allah in the Qur’an (Qur’an 33:37). When I had first read about the young sahabah, Usamah ibn Zaid radiAllahu anhum, I was amazed at his bravery and at his leadership skills–to have been granted the honor to lead an army at an age when youngsters are generally caught between immaturity and lack of wisdom (speaking from personal experience 🙋‍♀️). Reading a bit more about him from Darussalam’s Child Companions Around the Prophet (peace be upon him), increased my admiration and love for the young sahabah for his character, his faith in Islam, his love for his father, his love for the Prophet salAllahu alayhi wa sallam, and most importantly, his devotion to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala.

Dawood loves his books a lot. One day, he comes across a book unlike any other he has seen and is intrigued. When he asks his mom about it, he discovers interesting facts about the Book, explores all the things it talks about, finds out why it’s so special, and learns about the Speaker of the Book too. Dawood Loves His Books introduces children to the concept of the Qur’an, the role it plays in the life of a Muslim, the things that Allah has talked about in it, and also gives a description of Allah Himself using Surah al-Ikhlas as a base—everything a child would need to know about the Qur’an and Allah in the early years of his life! The rhyme scheme of the story makes it pleasant on little ears, and easy for little minds to follow.
