Loudmouth Line makes fun of humble Decent Dot. Great danger! The entire Legendary Land of Pages could disappear, along with all its inhabitants, because of Line’s foolishness. From beginning to end, children and adults will be intrigued by the book’s message, the enchanting creatures, and the vivid imagery. Plus fun activities! Book’s message: Wonderful things can happen when we work together!
“Look at you, little Decent Dot.
Tiny, insignificant and unimportant.
Just a bore and nothing more!
What can you do and what can you be, Decent Dot,
for goodness’ sake?”
– Loudmouth Line and Decent Dot, Nayera Salam
Loudmouth Line and Decent Dot takes a different approach in conveying the message of bullying, and the response to taking a stand against it. From the outset, the reader knows that Loudmouth Line is the bully and Decent Dot is the one who is bullied. What does Loudmouth Line say for the reader to understand his bullying behaviour? How does Decent Dot react to it? What do the others surrounding the scene, in The Legendary Land of Pages, do? Do they help Decent Dot or do they go about their own way? And finally, how does Loudmouth Line retaliate when Decent Dot takes a stand against bullying?
I like this colourful book for its unique story. The illustration is catchy and interesting, especially for younger kids who notice details. The author has also included activities at the end of the book for the children to engage in. The only issue I had was with certain negative words being repetitive. But maybe, that is how it was meant to be, considering the age range and the topic of the book.
