Imagine, by Shoohada Khanom

Book Review
“Could we talk about something interesting?
While we’re trying to get some rest?”
“Okay, Yunus,” Saarah replied.
Plucking something from the top of her head.

Imagine, by Shoohada Khanom
Imagine by Shoohada Khanom, is a children’s picture-book geared towards the ages 3 to 8. I had won this paperback from Sisters In Business when they had held a Giveaway in Instagram on March 2018.

In the story, the siblings, Saarah and Yunus — named after the author’s children — are a cute duo, who have a loving relationship with each other. When Yunus asks Saarah to converse before bedtime, she goes on an imagination spree and talks about animals, dinosaurs and aliens as friends, and about sending Eid gifts to orphans and cooking extra meals in Ramadan, and a whole lot more. She imagines how life would be if her imagination turned out to be true.
Frankly, her imaginations are so much fun and I would love it if some of it came true as well, like:
Could you imagine if raindrops were water bombs?
I’d spring around catching a few.
I’d chase and dash them at our siblings,
and secretly splash our parents, too.
How fun would that be! However, I would add to that to have a flu-fighting armor so we don’t end up catching a cold 😀
The illustrations by Faiza Benaouda and Vicky Amrullah have a pleasing oil-pastel look that captures a child’s eyes easily. I love that the illustrators included Islamic elements in the background. Imagine, published by Djarabi Kitabs is a ‘funtertainment’ book that invites readers to get creative and use their imagination skills to help them have fun and keep them entertained.
We loved reading this book over and over again and indulging in our own imaginations and talking about how life would be if they were true.
